There was a time they use to be called Nanny dogs because families left them watching over their young kids while they went to work the fields, from what i’ve read. It’s only recently that people have started seeing them as monsters.
Photographer Robyn Arouty published a series of photos on her website of a Black Labrador in Texas named Duke. He had been diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his leg and the leg had to be amputated. Unfortunately, Duke had to be put to sleep on July 7th because the cancerous tumor had spread. Duke’s owner, Jordan Roberts, is a friend of Arouty and asked the photographer to capture Duke’s last day with his family. He ate some treats, spent time with his family, played in the water, and rested in a park. Duke looks like a wonderful dog who is now at peace. Heartbreaking! Sad & beautiful & the same time. At least Duke had a good loving family for his time on this earth.
The way he is looking at her in the last picture……..I’m crying.
